» Millay Colony for the Arts

USA, CANADA, INTERNATIONAL

The Millay Colony for the Arts hosts writers, visual artists, and composers of all ages and in all stages of their artistic career. Groups of six to seven artists representing various disciplines are invited for month-long residencies at the Colony between the months of April and November. The Colony provides each resident a private room and studio, and meals. There are no fees charged for a residency.

The Millay Colony is located about 2 ½ hours north of New York City and 2 ½ hours west of Boston, Massachusetts, in Austerlitz, New York.

Grants are made in the following fields: archaeology, architecture (design, theory, and history), art history, art and architectural conservation, crafts, dance, film, museology, music, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, theater, and video.

The Asian Cultural Council supports cultural exchange between Asia and the United States in the performing and visual arts, primarily by providing individual fellowship grants to artists, scholars, students, and specialists from Asia for study, research, travel and creative work in the United States. Some grants are also awarded to Americans engaged in similar activities in Asia


» Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Awards

The Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Awards, worth $15,000, are awarded annually starting in 2005 for outstanding artistic achievement by Canadian mid-career artists in the disciplines of Dance, Inter-Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts and Writing and Publishing.

The Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Fund originated from a generous bequest by the late Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton to the Canada Council for the Arts in 1967. Until 2005, the annual revenues were used to award senior grants in Visual Arts and Music.

The Canada Council for the Arts has approved a new program that changes the way grants are awarded to visual artists, while at the same time continuing its tradition of support for independent artistic research and creation. The new program will also, for the first time, provide two-year grants to allow Canadian visual artists to develop their art and careers.

Writing and Publishing

The Canada Council for the Arts offers a range of grants for professional Canadian writers, collectives and publishers. In addition to providing support for the creation, translation, publication and promotion of Canadian literature, the Writing and Publishing Section funds author residencies, literary readings and festivals, as well as new areas of activity such as rap poetry, storytelling and electronic literature.  They also have travel grants and administer a number of endownments and prizes from other organizations.
