Huge Savings on Your Printing Costs from Inkman -- highly recommended, this is where I get all my HP refills.

There are dozens of freelance job boards for feelancers. The list that follows are some of my top picks.

Start by registering with at least two or three of the major freelance job boards and freelance exchanges to get access to hundreds of job opportunities. Be sure to bookmark the links and check back regularly to bid on the jobs you are interested in.

Don't undercut yourself or other freelancers ... you do not want to build a client base of companies that are only interested in the lowest bids.

You will do best if your bid is in the mid-range. Be sure you can actually DO the job for the price you bid. There is nothing worse than coming back to a client and asking for more money on your first contract with them. So take a bit of time and make sure you fully understand what the job is about and put boundaries around the scope of the work in your agreement.

As you build a freelance client base and reputation on the job boards, you will get more and more requests for freelance work.

#1 My TOP pick is Rent A Coder
This is one of the busiest freelance job boards on the Internet. When I just checked there were over 100 writing jobs of various kinds, over 500 programming jobs and over 100 art/design jobs posted. And that covers only a few of the many categories. You just have to check this out. Need I mention that this is a fabulous place to get the jobs you've been putting off ... done? Your website? Some promotional marketing? A virtual assistant?

#2 My second to the TOP pick is the Freelance Work Exchange

The Freelance Work Exchange has listings for writers, designers, consultants, programmers. Basically ... freelancers of all types. This site has been established for a number of years, and has a great record of matching freelancers with projects. Wherever you are in the world, you can apply for jobs and projects, most of which can be undertaken remotely from your home location.

Take a look at the jobs database where you will find hundreds of fresh freelance jobs to choose from, plus a wealth of advice and information. The listings on the right are the most recent additions to the Freelance Work Exchange jobs database:

All these jobs and many more are available for you to apply for right now. Try the site out for just $2.95, and get instant access to all the jobs and resources.

Get instant access to hundreds of freelance jobs.

#3 My third pick is Entertainment Jobs. This job board is great if you want to work in the entertainment industry. Publicity, marketing, radio, TV, motion pictures, the music industry and more. You will find both full time and contract positions here.

It doesn't stop with the top three. There are loads of other job boards and if you are serious about making a living as a freelancer, you will join more than one of them. These are the sites I have checked out.

Elance has been building their client base and their reputations for years. They started off as a fee job board, but made the switch to a subscription service once they were able to provide a huge number of jobs for their subscribers to bid on. This is where I go when I am looking for someone to work on my website, design logos and create great graphics. One of the great features is email notification of the project postings of your choice.

I know that when you look at the subscription fees your first reaction is going to be "no way." But look at this testimonial ... and then check out the other testimonials posted on the elance site.

Suzanne Bucciarelli, Founder and President of i design, is a graphic designer with six years of professional experience. She got her start freelancing through another online marketplace, but found that marketplace had low volume and poor quality of projects. Her experience with Elance has been exactly the opposite. Suzanne is relatively new to Elance, but made more than $14,000 through Elance Online in her first two months. She lives and works in Virginia.

There are over 900,000 jobs available at Career Builder. This is a general job board that is US based. I did a search on the keyword "writer" and got over 1200 returns. Loads of great jobs. And this appears to be THE place some of the huge companies such as Amazon and Turner Broadcasting use for their job searches.

Monster.com Though this is mainly a traditional job search website, you will also find telecomuting jobs and contract positions. You can upload your resume and make it available to thousands of potential employers. I found several interesting looking short and long term contracts for copywriters, writers, graphic artists and loads of work for IT people.

BidRadar.com "There is a perception that doing business with Uncle Sam is so hard that the trouble is not worth it. The fact is, your fellow small business owners will sell around $40 billion dollars of goods and services to the government this year... so it can't be too difficult to make a sale!"

BidRadar has a notification service for your choice listings, so you don't have to check in every day.

Workaholics4Hire.com I'd definitely sign up for their telecommuting newsletter.

Find Your Dream Job in the Entertainment Industry. You will find a mix of regular and freelance jobs at this entertainment specific website. Some of the employers advertising here are Hallmark, MGM, Music Magazine, Universal Studios, Hearst Entertainment and more.

Is Your Resume up to GETTING THE CONTRACT?

You'll need a dynamite resume to put up on the job boards. Do you have one? Need some help? Is your resume HOLDING YOU BACK?

High Impact Resumes

A good resume is a MUST. It should showcase your talents and abilities. It should sell you and your services, and help get you in the door so YOU can get the contract.

I highly recommend Julie at HighImpactResumes.com. Julie has written several versions of my resume and wow … what a fabulous job. Everytime I have sent out that resume I get an interview, and with one exception I have also been offered the contracts!

Even though I have been freelance writer for over 25 years I would NEVER write my own resume. I think we are simply too close to our own talents to find the “gold nuggets” and sell the “sizzle.” That’s what Julie does … she is undoubtedly one of the best resume writers on the planet! And though her services don’t come cheap … they are worth every penny.
