On the Internet PLR stands for Private Label Rights. In a nutshell the concept is that the owner sells a package of articles or a piece of software to you, and gives you the rights to re-sell it. It got the name Private Label Rights, because the right to re-sell often comes with the right to re-label the product with your own title and author name.
Over time the concept has become much more sophisticated, it now includes many forms or “classes” of PLR rights. For example, you may have the right to re-sell it but your can not put your name on it. OR you can not only re-sell it, but you can also sell the rights to re-sell it.
Every PLR package comes with a license. Here is a synopsis of the three most important rights you will see in a PLR license:
Basic Resell Rights
YOU have the right to resell the product. You keep 100% of the profit from your sales.
Master Resell Rights
You not only have the right to resell the product, but you can sell Resell Rights to your customers.
Master Resell Rights is usually bundled together with the purchase of the product, but it can also be purchased separately from the product.
Master rights are great to use as an UP sell!
Private Label Rights
This the BEST of the three, Private Label Rights usually gives you the right to change the product in any way you like. You can put your name on it, sell resell rights or even master resell rights to others. Basically, you can treat the product as if it were your own.
Because of the bad reputation that many PLR packages have, I totally ignored PLR products for years. Recently a friend of mine highly recommended I give it a try. She recommended a package that included some very good products that were perfect for several of my niche markets. In addition to products that had some merit, the package also had a series on “How to Sell PLR Products” which was extremely useful!
Over a six month period I have doubled my investment by selling a few of the products on one of my niche sites. This may not seem like much, but the truth is I have not expended much time or effort!
PLR products might be of interest to you if you want to start an Internet business but don’t have much time to spend on developing products and sales material from scratch. You can virtually have products up for sale in less than a day.
PLR products can be of use to you if you can get an article package in your niche … then quickly re-write parts of the articles and use them in your blog, in the article networks or as part of an auto-responder series.
I have found PLR products (the horrid ones) to be a good way to kick start my creative process. I always end up with an article that looks nothing like the product I started with … but for me “starting” is the hard part!
The possibilities of what you can do with PLR products are endless and are only limited by your imagination!
