Fifteen-year-old Martin just lost his father in a military plane crash. He is uprooted from his home on base in California and moved to South Carolina where his Marine mother is reassigned. He meets Diana and his life changes.
He quickly falls for her, but she only sees him as her best friend. After she becomes ill, she moves away before he can tell her how he feels. As the years pass, they write to each other from across the world. He becomes a pilot in the Marines, while she pursues a singing career. He is shipped off to fight in The Gulf War and gets shot down behind enemy lines. Injured, he can only think of Diana.

Julie has always had a passion for writing. As a young child, she wanted to be a writer. She is the daughter of an Air Force veteran. Her family moved around a lot and she was in a new school almost every year. Writing kept her grounded.
At the age of 19 she married her high school sweetheart and moved to California where he was stationed in the Marine Corps. The military has always been a part of her life and is a huge influence on her writing. She lives in Florida with her husband of 28 years. They have a daughter in college. Her family is very important to Julie and they continue to inspire her every day
