Was looking for a nice short read with dark undertones. Consumption delivered! Took less than an evening, but lots of intense, memorable moments. Also some light-hearted ones: “When I wake up, I am as pure as Irish butter” – Amazon Review
Consumption
“Next time, you use my lips
as your bed, you better stay the night.Else I’ll open my mouth, tilt
back my head, and push you down
into my stomach.“
Trigger Warning: horror and mentions of sexual and physical abuse.
A dark exploration of surrealism, sexuality, aging, and death, Consumption is a debut poetry chapbook by Julia Gannon. Although nihilistic and “edgy” at parts, there is an underlying humor and hopefulness in many of the poems. Aimed at readers interested in surrealistic, bizarre imagery and/or experiencing the psychological state of a young woman contending with past trauma and fear of the future.
