This fun and engaging book helps kids learn and practice a variety of self regulation strategies. As a teacher, I have been looking for a book that doesn’t read super “clinically”… And this book is perfect. I also love the visuals and tips that are included in the book– the poster is super helpful to help kids remember and choose different strategies to try. Love it!! I highly recommend Harlie Doodle Dog: Find Your Calm. Also, everybody loves Harlie!!! So cute and relatable!! 🙂 -Amazon Review
Would you like your child to have some calming strategies they know and can use when feeling upset or frustrated? Then this cute, rhyming picture book is a great choice for your family!
After becoming frustrated when playing with his toys, Harlie Doodle Dog’s mommy teaches him different ways that he can calm his mind, body and heart.
This story will help your little one how to use strategies such as taking deep breaths, counting backwards, hugging yourself, balancing on one foot and many more.
Additionally, included in the back of the book are tips on introducing and practicing these calm down techniques with your child and a pull-out chart that depicts each strategy taught in the book in pictures from the story. This book will be a welcome addition to your home or teacher library!
Goodreads review – “’Find Your Calm’ is the latest in Karina Bossé’s Harlie Doodle Dog Series. In this book Harlie, the soft sweet dog, sometimes gets angry and then exhibits behaviours that are not helpful. Using a chart with pictures and words, Harlie’s mummy (or mommy depending on where you live) helps him learn some strategies to use when he feels angry to calm his mind and body down.
The story itself is very simplistic, and the emphasis is on the calming strategies. I really liked that with the e-book there was a free downloadable pdf of the calming strategies that every parent can print off and work through with their child when they are not angry. Then if the chart is placed somewhere prominent it can be used when a child is angry/upset etc. to see which strategy the child thinks might help them.
Simple strategies that any parent can use to work with their child. Well done.”
