About the Author
What it means to be The Common Denominator is to be one with the attainment of a higher self. That then leads to further realizations and ultimately the journey to self awareness begins. Nana Brewah embarked on this journey which lead to her continuous spiritual healing. Taking responsibility for ones on reality is one of the most impenetrable realities of Nana’s self healing journey. The acknowledgement that everything that happened to her also happened for her, by her, was the most consequential part of her falling down and getting back up; which she calls healing.
As an individual always intertwined in the search of the deeper meaning for life, Nana found herself often in a meditative state writing about her life experiences from childhood in Sierra Leone West Africa, her struggle with identity as an African living in America, volatile relationship with her biological family to her battle with mental health while in foster care.
At age 27, she decided to self publish her first poetry collection, sharing some of her deepest thoughts and emotional experiences.
“During my healing process, I found that activities such as exercising, gardening, mediating, reading and writing played a great role in grounding my prayers. But my service to others was the motivation. I wanted to give back to my community. To help people more than I was already helping. What greater way to help than to teach through my poetry? Writing poems helped me heal. I hope reading them will help others heal.” Nana Brewah
