190 days left of her work visa and having had no results from her job search, Amel focuses all her energy on getting the only permanent position at work.
Hoping to convince the director of her competence to become the manager, she goes to meet him in his office. That meeting changes everything for Amel since she leaves the director breathless and helplessly in love with her. She’s confident that she’s going to get the coveted position and finally apply for Permanent Residence in Canada.
It doesn’t take long before Amel realizes she might have made a huge mistake since love is not the only motivation to make her the manager.
Soon, Amel finds herself in a complicated relationship with the director and in constant conflict with her coworkers who are not too pleased about her sudden promotion.
Joggling the toxic work environment, Amel comes home to Nosra, her roommate, who is supposed to be her best friend, but is making things difficult for her by gossiping about her to her family and friends back home in Morocco. Her constant blabbering causes Amel’s brother to demand her return to take care of the baby daughter she’s left behind.
Amel, however, is determined to persevere. Her goal is to live in Canada permanently and bring her daughter to live with her.
About The Author: Bahar Pendar
I’m Bahar and writing is my passion. As an immigrant woman, who has overcome numerous obstacles to move to Canada and establish herself here, I write about driven female protagonists who know what they want from their lives and are not afraid of putting a good fight to get them.
Trying to portray a realistic picture of women’s struggles, my stories don’t always have happy endings, but they always tell the story of my characters’ journey to discover who they really are and what they’re capable of.
I discovered my passion for writing when I took a creative writing course in 2008 for my Master’s degree in English literature. Ever since, I’ve been writing novellas, short stories and poetry.
