I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has a hunger for more. It has real life stories and very practical wisdom to offer you about discipleship. I work as a small groups pastor and so many times we get comfortable in just our gatherings. God is calling people into the deep, into relationship, and sharing our faith. This book provides all three. The author and his family are creating a movement of the Gospel into the lives they come in contact with. My hope is that you read this book, chew on the truth of God, and go therefore. – Amazon Review
Making Disciples And Leading Others To Make Them:
A Missionary Family Discovers The Essentials Of
How Jesus Made Disciples Who Made Disciples
In the greater church-community the word discipleship is not uncommon by any means. For a new believer it, could be one of the first things they hear. Maybe they hear something like, ‘Well now you need to plug into a church and get discipled.’ What can be uncommon is finding many believers in the global church consistently multiplying disciples.
Why isn’t the discipleship process multiplying through-out the greater church the way we see in the gospels and the book of Acts? Jesus was the greatest model in history of true discipleship multiplication. He started the process with himself by answering the Father’s call on his own life. Then he found and invited a few to come with him, built deep relationship and trust with them, began a small movement that rapidly grew into the greatest movement ever recorded, and finally left an incredible map for us to continue the work to the ends of the world!
In Making Disciples and Leading Others To Make Them author Ian Kristofer dives into this on-going global church challenge in a unique and personal way. With eight years of experience living among an unreached oral-only community in South-East Africa Ian shares the essentials he has learned from Jesus on how to continue the discipleship map Jesus started, and how it is creating a small movement through-out the country.
What makes this book unique is that since February 2015 Ian and his family are still currently serving in the country full time and daily continuing to apply these strategies. These essentials can be used anywhere, with anybody!
You will experience:
- essential and biblical guides to multiplying disciples
- real-life stories from their groups and process
- practical guides and exercises that lead to results for you to practice
Jesus called every follower of him to go make disciples. He didn’t exclude anyone in his process! After reading this book Ian believes you will find the courage and faith to say, ‘if a normal guy like him can do it, so can I.” And Christ himself will be with you always, even to the end of the age!
About the Author
Ian Kristofer is a normal guy and man of unique spiritual gifting to exhort others to action and obedience to their calling in Christ and creating disciples who make disciples. Born and raised in Southern California, and the comforts of a sunny life in a big city did not make him immune to some physical challenges. Breaking his femur from a bone cyst and spending three months in a full body cast while in grade school began his journey of dependence on God and realization of God’s healing power in his life. His passion for writing in High School won him a journalism contest that brought with it a trip to Washington, D.C.
Shortly before that Ian found his world turned upside down when his parents moved the family from Riverside, California to a cold, and very small town in Alaska. Little did he know that the vast differences in temperature, population, and even the culture of these two West Coast states would prepare him well for a life in the mission field. It was here in Alaska that Ian experienced two personal encounters with the living God, and a call to missions that would change the course of his life. It would be 20 years before that call would come to fruition. Ian went to college in Phoenix, Arizona chasing after a dream of playing baseball. What he would find instead was the opportunity from Jesus to lay that dream down and chase after the perfect dreams God had already prepared for him. In Phoenix he would meet his wife and begin a family and ministries in local churches. Here his giftings within the Kingdom of God began to flourish. During those essential 20 years of waiting to be sent out Ian’s spiritual growth included, hearing the voice of God, signs and wonders, prayer, dreams and visions, and seeking the greater things Jesus talked about with His disciples.
Writing worship songs and leading worship became an on-going gifting and passion for the next 2 decades. Here too, his original call into a life of missions while in Alaska began to take sharp focus. That focus was on Africa. God was calling Ian and his family out of their ministries in Phoenix into the beautiful and challenging land of Africa.
This is the reason that Ian and his wife Carla founded the Compelled Ones Mission. Compelled Ones is a team of missionaries focused on reaching the oral-only unreached communities in Mozambique through health care, education, community development, and making disciples that make disciples. Ian never dreamed of all the places God would send him after saying yes to going into the mission field. His family has been all over the world now! Ian, Carla and their three sons currently reside and serve the people of a small village in Mozambique.
From early 2015 to the present day, they are witnessing and part of a rapid growth of disciple-making disciples in the central and Northern region of Mozambique, Africa. Now with eight years of missionary service in Mozambique behind him, Ian has taken the journals of his experiences with the oral-only communities of the Yawo, and placed them into a memoir and practical guide-book to inspire others to hear from God, obey, and follow Jesus’ example of love and discipleship. Their dream is to see the Great Commission completed in their lifetime.
