I found all the tips in the book very useful for new Ostomates. Key points are getting into a Facebook group such as the one suggested in the book. It is a game changer. Also, requesting samples is a biggie. It’s a trying time for all of us at one point or another. I love the hero aspect. It puts a real positive spin on the situation. – Amazon Review
My Front Butt: A HERO’s guide to your Ostomy
If we don’t laugh, we cry.
An ostomy comes with an overwhelming amount of emotion. We know the procedure was necessary and lifesaving, but the initial depression—and the embarrassment. Alive, yes—we should feel grateful. But the sense of loss and independence can be a struggle to overcome.
I know. I’ve been there. But I can tell you that I cried until I could laugh. I chose to be a HERO and look at my situation through the lens of positivity. When we face an overwhelming physical and mental challenge, we can choose to drown in victimhood and become a villain. Or we can look at the circumstances and decide that we have been given an opportunity—a superpower.
My hope is by sharing my experience and giving you some insight, you see that life goes on and you can still be the superhero of your story. You have a superpower now. You just need to learn how to use it!
