This is a uniquely creative book. It really pushes beyond your limit of your creative mind. Each page has a poem and space for your kids to try to create their own poem. I will use both in my theater and language classrooms with my students. It is a great way to expand vocabulary and improve one’s language ability. I can also use the poems for creating sketches, theater warm up activities and improvising plays. -Amazon Review
Object Poetry (Set 1)
Object Poetry (OP) is a creative writing book written and illustrated for literate children of all ages. It started off as a project on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/objectpoetry/) in January 2019, for the mere purpose of having fun and sticking to a self-created project for a time period. It was then loved and supported by friends, and by people from around the world, with object ideas coming from them to be turned into poems. Then we thought “Why not turn this project into a creative writing book so people can have personalized and customized OP books of their own?”
So, how should you use this book?
On the left hand side, you are going to find the original poems and the drawings of the objects. The pages on the right hand side are left blank for you to create your own poems for the same objects, and draw their pictures. You might like to stick their photos, too. All up to you and your inner creative kid – let that kid be free and have fun with the outcome! Enjoy! ?
OP can be:
- an enjoyable pastime for literate children of all ages. (And by “children”, we simply mean everyone – we all have that little child living in all of us!)
- a great gift for loved ones.
- a collaborative family time resource.
- a fun & an interactive tool for language play.
- a useful device to boost your creative thinking skills.
- a supplementary material for English language teachers to spark their learners’ imaginations while practising the language.
- a totally personal art book to keep for life!
About the Author
“I am not this hair. I am not this skin. I am the soul that lives within.” Rumi
Inci Kartal is;
insatiably curious since birth.
A dedicated English teacher, life-long learner, full-time dreamer, searcher for self.
A great believer in creativity & passion.
A joy finder in little things.
Eating (yoghurt!!) lover, dancing lover, eccentricity lover, spirituality lover.
A traveller.
Having worked with language learners at different age groups from very young ones to adults, she realized in years that no matter how old they are, learners – we – all of us – are always up for creative expression and bringing out what’s inside. It’s a need, is fun, is healing, is personal, and helps discover the self and learn better. This realization has made her embrace creative writing as a tool in her teaching and her personal life.
The idea of “Object Poetry” (OP) struck her when she was doing daily chores in the kitchen one day – she probably needed a creative escape from the mundane, as always. She then started an Instagram project with the same name, as a form of persona poetry, and gave voice to objects from our day-to-day life, on a day-to-day basis. The project was then loved and supported by people from around the world with object ideas coming from them to be turned into poems. She then thought “Why not turn this project into a creative writing book so people can have personalised and customised OP books of their own?” And so came out the first OP book in the series for literate children of all ages – all of us – to enjoy and benefit from.
?nci is now in the process of completing the other OP books in the series.
She will then set out, little by little, to turn into production the many creative voices that come from the soul within.
She received her undergraduate in English Language Teaching, and holds an MA in TESOL & Creative Writing from the University of Westminster, London.
She lives and works in Istanbul, Turkey.
