Pay Attention To Me:
A fairly accurate story
I had no idea then how long of a journey I had ahead of me. The anguish, the roller coaster of emotions, the impact my actions had on the lives of my loved ones… It wasn’t sustainable. Something had to change.
It’s January 2017 when Kelly survives her fourth suicide attempt. Her life has been a roller coaster of emotions, fueled by the inability to stop the things going on inside her head. As part of her release, she’s required to seek outpatient care—therapy.
And then she finds Robin.
Over three years, Kelly and her therapist Robin work together to uncover and address the causes and her symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder: sex as validation, glorification of negative symptoms, craving the extraordinary, grandiose thinking… Her healing is never a straight line—sometimes she relapses, sometimes she wants to quit therapy altogether…and sometimes she achieves small wins.
Pay Attention to Me: A Fairly Accurate Story is an examination of Borderline Personality Disorder, told through journal entries alongside patient notes. It’s a memoir of finding balance and hope in the face of BPD. For anyone affected by this insufferable disease, Pay Attention to Me is not to be missed.
About the Author
Kelly South is a pen name. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s certificate in Dispute Resolution from an accredited state university. Due to the nature and details of my story, I chose to change names and other important information to preserve the anonymity of my family and my therapist. I documented my sessions and am a first time author.
I was diagnosed with BPD at the age of 35. Even with my educational background, I could not control or understand my Borderline Personality Disorder. Through many misdiagnoses and several failed attempts at therapy, I found a way of accepting a BPD diagnosis, finding treatment that worked for me and I overcame a common and misunderstood mental illness.
I live in the Mountain West with my husband and two children. Most of my days are mundane and I would not have it any other way.
