Play On: Book 3 – Odyssey
A visceral, but authentic portrait of relationships that feed on blind ambition. Play On is a saga about love, but twisted and distorted in betrayal. The action is set in the glitz and glamour of the 1980s, a melange of sex and drugs, music, and musicians. But we also step forward in time — close to now — to venture into the arcane realm of academia — a degree that unveils the dirty secrets of a corrupt and dissolute music industry.
Book 3 marks the closing chapter in the saga, and Odyssey plays out in glorious Middle-Eastern splendour. There is love, joy, pain, gimp-balls (!), a host of new dilemmas and a mystery spurred by the ominous vision that occupies the first and last chapters of book 2.
The Play On series extends over three books and two time periods. If you want true insights into the world of music? Read the book. If you want authentic? Read the book.
“I didn’t go to work today, I just read your book.”
About the Author
DK Sachs The photograph above, featuring the expansive waterway, also contains the author. The location is the Middle East, Dubai, and a ride on an Abra, the Arabian water taxi. The time period was somewhere in the 1980s. The 1980s provide a distinctive and authentic flavour to the three-book saga, Play On, as does the Middle East in book 3, Odyssey.
Welcome to my author page.
Photograph number two tells a more recent tale — pre-lockdown and saxophone in hand — music has always played a substantive part in my life, a fundamental to always resonate, but teaching, education, the theatre, copyright, publishing, recording studios et al, have made major ripples. A heady well-pool of Sturm und Drang. The plots and characters of my novels are a fiction, but the sense of place and time is real.
I was always going to write, it was just a case of when — too much to do — so I went away to France for a month with the promise, to me, I’d write a book. I had no idea, not the least notion of what I was starting; life would never be the same again. Writing, in both thought and deed, possessed me. I was subsumed into a netherworld of plots and storylines, characters speaking from every page, it was wonderful and I was happily invested.
The release of the three books completes a journey that started in July 2016, when I first sat to write on a tiny, sun-baked patio in Southern France, encouraged by fresh coffee, croissants, and the joyful trill of “Bonjours” from passers-by. A small slice of Heaven.
