A collection of poems I wrote while going through the darkest parts of my life so far, I try to take the reader with me as I try to relive the past and see how I came to terms with life as it is.
Having read samples of verse from the author, not from an editor’s perspective, but a lover of poetry and personal expression, these pieces speak truth to the raw depth of feeling for a young man faced with uncertainty and personal pain.
It is truly a gift of language and perspective for a generation that is commonly misunderstood, and often discounted as entitled and lofty, not that Plaisance alone speaks for his generation, his offering is his own. But I believe his work, and works like his, deserve to be heard, validated, and praised, not only for the energy and understanding they elicit, but also the bravery by which they were shared.
Anyone who has attempted to sit down and write a page of such personal verse can understand the anguish and emotional toil a writer experiences sharing their work with others.
This isn’t just trivial, personal yammering, although some critics would attempt to reduce the writings of the young to just that.
If you leave your own pretense at the door, and look with open eyes, you could give these personal revelations their due. Something deep, from the core of a person, has been offered to you. Such a generous tribute should be respected. I hope to be given the privilege to read more.
