Maikeru Iirenikasu is a war veteran and an ardent journal keeper. He started writing at 11; at first, he was primarily focused on short Sci-Fi stories, but after much encouragement from his English teacher, he delved into the world of romance and fantasy. After being nominated twice for the “best imagination” award, Maikeru ventured further and started writing short fiction stories.

Though the stories were never published, they had a cult following throughout his high school in 1996. However, the burdens of studies and other commitments soon overwhelmed him, and by 1998, he stopped writing altogether to focus on other matters.

In late 1999, the passion for writing again was rekindled by a “certain” milestone, which Maikeru still considers one of his most outstanding achievements. This led to the birth of a journal and poetry. And, since 1999, not a day has gone by when Maikeru has not jolted down his thoughts in his journal. Publishing a book was always on the back of his mind, but the pressing worries of the “present” kept him from dedicating his time to a book.

Just when Maikeru thought the time was on his side, in early 2007 (eight years from the day he had started keeping a journal), he started penning the first chapter of his graphic novel, but little did he know that time had other plans in store for him, and to shatter his will, life had an ace hidden up its sleeve. Tragedy struck in mid-2007, and that was Maikeru’s first rendezvous with death, and plans to finish the novel were postponed… indefinitely. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months, and every day, Maikeru looked for that inspiration to return, yet it never did.

Through the years that followed, the countless tempests tossed about his modest vessel on the sea of life, and at times, the young man thought all was lost; nevertheless, he always held onto his compass and anchor. Through the fiercest tempests of his life, Maikeru knew something that the tempest did not, that the ability to endure harm outlives the power to inflict it, and it was during those times his journal always anchored his soul.

During 2020, the early days of the pandemic, amidst the shutdowns, layoffs, and lockdowns, Maikeru started helping other self-published authors with their projects. The thought of publishing his novel often crept in through the crevices of his fractured inspiration. Still, he always set it aside and focused on the tasks at hand… until one fateful day in August 2021, he met a delightful spirit, and like two lost souls, they bonded and started sharing the experiences of their lives. And the days that followed brought with them a renewed passion for writing and poetry.
