About the Author
Christopher Martin Gerdes is creating a world called Ladalu, and foundational lore came from a tabletop RPG he ran. He took his love of European pagan, Christianity, and Arthurian elements and myths to create the founding lore of his fairy stories, adult fantasy series Tale of Houndin, and the young adult series Son of Loria.
Why fairy stories and the need for stories for adults? I understand the need for people to escape into mystical worlds because the real world, at its core, is grim and dark. People need something mystical to escape into. It’s core in fairy stories; the fairy story is a journey of fighting good and evil. The good, noble hero that slays an evil greedy dragon which one speaks the core of European literature. I think of things I escape into as a kid and later teenager, but now most escapism is not what it was. Instead of creating a world people can escape into, it’s a platform that preaches a real-world narrative. People, at heart, don’t want to be preached when trying to escape how dull or bad their lives are. If nowadays, the prominent big corporations don’t want to make fairy stories as they are to be or even try to change them for modern audiences destroying what they are, it’s up to people that have a love of fairy stories to write them.
