I LOVE how so many different families are represented in the illustrations in this book! This is so important for so many kids! The lesson in the book is also incredibly important and explained beautifully in the text. I truly felt SweetPea’s emotions as I read through the pages. Great book! –Amazon Reviewer
My series, “The Adventures of SweetPea,” is inclusive of all people with an array of diverse characters. In this series, “The Stolen Toy,” SweetPea learns that taking things without permission comes with consequences. It is my desire that you and your children will enjoy this book as much as I loved writing it.
Love the same,
Joyce LaBelle McNair
“The adventures of sweetpea was a hit with my kids 4 – 11. They loved how sweetpea didn’t have a singular race or gender. Creative way to teach diversity and inclusion to your kids. Sweet story with a great ending!”
“I bought this for my enby family member and their child. They absolutely love the diversity of this book as well as the underlying lessons. Absolutely amazing.”
About the Author
Hello and welcome to my author page.
I am Joyce Labelle McNair a Sister, Mother, Auntie-(Popo), and a Grandmother-(Grand). I am 58 years old. I enjoy making things with my hands. I love to feel the earth between my toes while I work in my garden. I live in the city, but I am a country girl at heart. I love to cook, especially, veggies from my garden, and I make a mean loaf of sour dough bread. I can my own jams, pickles, salsa, sundried tomatoes, and I recently started making my own Kombucha. I make artisan soaps, natural jewelry, wreaths, and I have a product line of natural body care items Sister Products. I have always been “crafty” I was taught by the finest woman on earth: Flora (my mom); she was an amazing mother, and I miss her every day. My life is filled with Passion, Joy and Happiness that she and my dad taught me. I had Loving parents, not perfect parents, who taught me to Love myself and others. Their Love for me made it possible for me to love with sincerity and to them I am eternally grateful.
I have Love for people who are Different. In our society, focus is given to people who are different; however, that focus is seldom positive. At times, it can be downright cruel. I have experienced the cruelty first hand, as a child and I will never forget those feelings. My writings are to support individuals who are different whether it be race, gender, sexuality, and or religion. Everyone deserves Love and Happiness. It is my sincere desire that you feel my Love in everything I make and do.
It is my absolute desire that you are uplifted by the simplicity of my books. I want you to experience the lightheartedness of these books that would take you into SweetPea’s adventures. My books are designed in a way that any child -no matter their race or sex – would be able to see someone that looks like them. The notion of family members looking alike is not today’s reality. In my immediate family, we have 7 different ethnic groups and we don’t all look the same, but we Love the same. I am careful to be inclusive but not perfect. We as a nation need to look past race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion. We must begin to see each other beyond our differences and see that we are simply one people on the face of this earth.
Perhaps, in my own small way, these books will be a part of this change the world so dearly needs.
