The story of Lucy will certainly capture the reader’s heart! Maybe you are thinking about adding a new fur friend to your family or have recently done so. This book would be a terrific resource as a way to introduce your new animal adoption to your kids. As an elementary teacher of 25 years, I have read my share of children’s books to my class. Children tend to gravitate toward anything to do with animals, and Lucy’s sweet story of courage and redemption will invite the reader to greater compassion and understanding from a rescued dog’s perspective. There are so many dogs (of course, cats, too) in shelters that need forever homes, and bringing this to light through this well crafted and brightly illustrated narrative may inspire school aged children toward an in-class service project at their local humane society. By the way, if you are a teacher and are teaching point of view, this short story would be perfect to enhance your literature curriculum. I highly recommend this book for any age.
