THE DEBT NEVER CLEARS:
A Bronx Memoir of Justice and Belonging
THE DEBT NEVER CLEARS is a powerful memoir that takes readers deep into the streets of the Bronx, where survival isn’t guaranteed and every decision carries consequences.
Darney K. Born Rivers shares his real-life journey through loss, incarceration, and the systemic challenges that shape inner-city communities.
Born and raised in the Bronx during a time of heavy crime and limited opportunities, Rivers’ life was marked early by hardship. After losing both parents, he found himself caught in cycles that many never escape. But instead of becoming another statistic, he transformed his pain into purpose.
This memoir is not just about struggle—it’s about growth, accountability, and rebuilding. Rivers takes readers beyond the streets and into a mindset shift that led him toward community leadership, mentorship, and service.
Today, as the founder of I Am My Community Inc., he works directly with youth, families, and individuals impacted by violence and systemic barriers. Through raw storytelling and honest reflection, THE DEBT NEVER CLEARS challenges the idea of “paying your debt to society” and asks a deeper question: what happens when that debt is never truly cleared?
This book is for anyone who has faced adversity, questioned their path, or believes in the power of transformation and second chances.
