Generation VI:
The Road to Pronoia
BEFORE GLORY COMES THE RECKONING
Still shaken by his journey through the Underworld, Leo Maquari sets out across a post-apocalyptic world on a quest that could change the fate of mankind. Along the way lies Pronoia, the home of a famous gladiatorial-style tournament that offers glory, distraction, and danger in equal measure.
But the road is long, lands are hostile, and ancient powers stir where civilization thins. Haunted by visions, rivaled by a legendary warrior, and hunted by forces older than the gods, Leo must decide whether destiny is something to fulfill—or to defy.

“I didn’t expect this to go as deep as it did. It starts off feeling like it’s going to be centered around training and competition, but it quickly turns into something a lot more reflective and layered.
Leo is dealing with a lot under the surface. The loss of his mother, the pressure of facing Feidor again, and everything tied to his past experiences all sit with him throughout the story. It’s not just about winning or proving himself, it’s about what’s driving him and whether he’s actually ready, mentally and emotionally, for what’s ahead.
How the book mixes the physical world with bigger ideas was the most interesting part of the book to me. There are moments that lean into philosophy, especially around fear, death, and purpose, and they’re woven into the story in a way that feels natural rather than forced. The lecture scenes and his reflections on the Underworld really add to that.
This story has action, but it’s not nonstop. It’s more about the buildup, the mindset, and everything happening internally as much as externally.” – Amazon Review

Jeff Wimperis
Jeff Wimperis is an American writer out of the Pocono region of Pennsylvania. Prior to his debut novel, Generation VI, he published several short stories and poems of speculative fiction.
When not writing, you can typically find him working on a new guitar piece for his YouTube channel, teaching ESL at a local college, or watching a good boxing match on ESPN+.
He is currently working on the second book of the Generation VI series. This will take the main character, Leo, deeper into the myth of his futuristic world, and lead him to understand.
I went into this thinking I’d casually read a few pages and instead got pulled in immediately. The opening is intense in a way that makes you stop and go “oh… we’re doing this right away, got it.”
What I didn’t expect was how much this book actually made me think. Yes, there’s fighting, training, cool weapons, all of that. But underneath it, there’s a lot about grief, pressure, and trying to figure out who you are when everything around you is shifting. That part hit more than I thought it would.
The friend group is also a highlight. They feel real, not overly polished, and they bring just enough humor to balance out the heavier moments. I found myself actually caring about what happens to them, which is always a good sign.
The world-building is interesting without being exhausting. It mixes mythology, philosophy, and this almost futuristic society in a way that could have been confusing, but it works. Overall, this surprised me in a good way.TLDR: Came for the action, stayed because I was suddenly having thoughts and feelings. -Amazon Review
